Miura Ryuho Shakuhachi

Miura Ryuho is one of the most sought after and respected shakuhachi makers in Japan today. Many of the top professional shakuhachi musicians in Japan play his flutes including Teruo Furuya, Kaoru Kakizakai, Fujiwara Dozan and Nomura Seizan.  Spanning a 50 plus year career, he started shakuhachi making first learning from Yokoyama’s father, Yokoyama Ranpo, then went on to become the principal shakuhachi maker for Katsuya Yokoyama throughout his illustrious career. He then went on to discover his own unique and revolutionary techniques in shakuhachi making. He is in such high demand that his waiting list is very long as he only takes custom orders. If you would like to order a shakuhachi from him, please email me: ryu.zen18@gmail.com.

There are four grades of shakuhachi:

¥500,000 for his standard flute.

¥600,000 for the “luxury” bamboo model.

¥700,000 for the top level bamboo. Silver and rattan binding is used for the nakatsugi, and utaguchi is made from ancient mammoth tusk ivory with silver lining. For international customers, acrylic is used.

¥1,000,000 for the elite, ultra-luxury class shakuhachi. Crafted with gold and rattan binding for the nakatsugi,  along with gold lining  around ancient mammoth tusk ivory utaguchi.
